From today Natural England and the RSPB have introduced car park charging on the RSPB Ham Wall Nature Reserve car park and the NE Ashcott Corner car park at Shapwick Heath NNR. We know this is a big change and we very much appreciate all the positive comments we have had supporting this. We also very much understand the concerns raised. The reserves of the Avalon Marshes have been a fantastic success story for wildlife and are a valued and special place for all those that visit. However the costs to run these sites is substantial and car park charging will generate much needed funds which will directly support the important work on the habitats and infrastructure on the reserves.
The charges on both car parks will be as follows:
In addition on the RSPB car park RSPB members can park free of charge (RSPB membership cards must be displayed on the dashboard), whilst on the NE Ashcott Corner car park there will be an annual pass available for £25.00 per year. Again this needs to be shown on the dashboard. The NE annual pass also includes a 10% discount for the Eco Friendly Bites cafe at the Avalon Marshes Centre. Parking at the Avalon Marshes Centre on Shapwick Road will also still be free of charge.Back to listing
