Free Entry to Avalon Archaeology for National Lottery Players

Avalon Archaeology was made possible with grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. To recognise the vital contribution lottery players make to places like us, we’re giving free entry to ticket holders for the day.

To qualify, just show a lottery ticket or scratch card bought in the last 31 days at the Welcome Hut. Accompanying visitors will pay usual admission fees unless they also have a valid lottery ticket.

During your visit you can explore the product of our volunteers’ work, including a richly decorated reconstructed Roman dining-room and Anglo-Saxon longhall, as well as a waterline replica of a Viking ship and Iron Age roundhouse. Filled with hand crafted furniture and art, you will immerse yourself in thousands of years of heritage.

After your visit, you can make use of the Marshes Hub Tea Stop and visit the Somerset Crafts gallery in the Avalon Marshes Centre. You can also journey onto Shapwick Heath National Nature Reserve and see replica wooden prehistoric trackways.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

To qualify, just show a lottery ticket or scratch card bought in the last 31 days at the Welcome Hut. Accompanying visitors will pay the usual admission fees unless they also have a valid lottery ticket.

ACCESSIBILTY

The reconstructed buildings are accessible but feature some uneven gravel surfaces and narrow spaces that may make turning in larger electric wheelchairs difficult. A manual wheelchair is available on site for visitors to loan if there are issues. Generally, light levels may be lower than you may be used to in modern buildings, and visitors are welcome to use a torch. Large print guides are available from the Welcome Hut. Please contact us at avalon@swheritage.org.uk if you want to discuss special requirements.
