Spring Equinox
As winter loosens its grip and darkness balances with daylight, join us at Avalon Archaeology to celebrate the Spring Equinox by stepping into the watery world of the Somerset Levels.
The Somerset Levels were once a vast, watery landscape. Over two days we’ll explore how people thousands of years ago crossed the marshes using wooden trackways and canoes. Help recreate a section of the famous Sweet Track using replica Neolithic tools, learn how early communities travelled through wetlands, and see a reconstruction of a hand‑carved dugout canoe.
What to Expect
- Hands on activities including using Neolithic tools to build a reconstruction of a prehistoric trackway.
- See the hand-carved canoe displayed beside the Iron Age roundhouse and learn how these boats were made and used.
- Discover how early communities travelled through wetlands.
