Summer at Avalon Archaeology

Join us at Avalon Archaeology for a variety of special family-friendly drop in events taking place throughout the summer holidays.

We’re open on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer holidays, but we’ve got some additional, special opening days too.

Friday 31 July
Ancient Games Day

Make a simple game to take home inspired by the games of old. Discover games such as Ur, Hnefatafl, Nine Men’s Morris and Chess on replica boards. We’ll guide you through the rules and help you game like an ancient.

Saturday 8 August
Marvellous Mosaics

Discover Roman mosaics in the reconstructed Roman dining room, and have a go at designing your own.

Saturday 22 August
Marcus the Medicus

Meet Marcus the Medicus, a Roman doctor, and learn about health and healthcare in Romano-Britain. Dress up like a Roman and take the Art Trail challenge and see if you can find all our hidden replicas.

Thursday 27 August
Dress to Impress

Dress up and strike a pose in each reconstruction. Learn about what people wore from the Iron Age to Saxon times, and how the clothes were made. Make a Cheddar Brooch badge to take home.

Sunday 30 August
Haerfest

Come join us as we explore the turning of the seasons with a celebration of the harvest and a delve into the Anglo Saxon festivals of Lammas and Lughnasah.
